He leaves because she’s “pushing him.” This is how Maggie tells the story of Dad leaving. He’s yelling the entire time, then leaves with Maggie saying they don’t need him. In the first two sets of dialogue, Maggie is clearly the sane, rational, and tempered person - responding to Dad angrily telling her to “get over the fact” he spent all of their money. Something I considered when listening to the dialogue of the Maggie and Dad: The sudden shift in both of their behaviors halfway through (on Caves 1) leads me to think they are from two separate perspectives. Isaac is taken to child therapy, undergoes Child Art Therapy (drawing exercise used so children can find a way to process trauma and reveal more about their home life.) Isaac’s clearly fucked-up drawings (including Mom brandishing a knife, monsters and demons made of guts and feces, and various depictions of Isaac dying or killing himself) cause Dad to easily win custody over Isaac (Adoption Papers item,) they start over and Isaac’s stories become happier (Beast Ending dialogue) Isaac dies in the chest, enters heaven (Dad’s voice is god?) Here’s where there’s a couple possible outcomes: Isaac becomes suicidal and believes he is truly evil and the cause for his parents’ divorce Isaac draws his mom as Mother, she locks him in the closet, thus instilling the idea he’s evil in his mind Isaac becomes increasingly depressed, Mom becomes psychologically (and possibly physically) abusive towards him Before leaving, Dad tells Isaac to use his imagination to escape from reality, and that he will always be with him in spirit (Bum-Bo true end) Guppy dies (this doesn’t have a specific date, but it most likely happened pre-divorce) This comes to a boiling point when Mom catches Dad stealing money, cue the Ascension dialogue events Dad steals savings, spending money on beer and gambling, Mom begins binge-watching Televangelist broadcasts, causing arguments between the two Isaac’s dad makes him cardboard toys (Bum-Bo) so he can express his imagination Here’s my personal interpretation of what happens:
